These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Tether mobile application, website, and all related features, content, and services (collectively, the "Services") operated by Mentat Digital Solutions LLC ("Company," "we," "us," or "our"), a Wyoming limited liability company.
These Terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated herein by reference and is available at https://www.tetherapp.com/privacy. In the event of a conflict between these Terms and the Privacy Policy on a matter of data privacy, the Privacy Policy controls.
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated with at least 14 days' advance notice. The most current version of these Terms will always be available at https://www.tetherapp.com/terms.
The following definitions apply throughout these Terms:
● "Tether" or the "App" means the Tether mobile application available on iOS and Android platforms.
● "Services" means the App, the Tether website, and all features, content, tools, and services provided through or in connection with them.
● "User," "you," or "your" means any individual who accesses or uses the Services.
● "Account" means the registered user account you create to access the Services.
● "Son Profile" means a profile created within a Father account to represent a son or mentee, including Parent-Managed Profiles for children under 13.
● "User Content" means any content you create, upload, submit, or share through the Services, including journal entries, photos, voice recordings, messages, activity notes, and Community posts.
● "AI Features" means the artificial intelligence-powered capabilities of Tether, including AI Chat, Guided Conversations, Sentiment Analysis, Safe Space tone reflection, Conflict Resolution guidance, and the AI Recommendation Engine.
● "Community" means the moderated discussion forums, support groups, and social features within the app.
● "Subscription" means a paid access plan that unlocks Premium features of the Services.
● "Parent-Managed Profile" means a son profile created and controlled by a parent or guardian on behalf of a child under 13 in compliance with COPPA.
You must meet the following age requirements to use Tether:
● Direct account registration requires you to be at least 13 years of age
● Users ages 13 to 17 must have verifiable parental or guardian consent to register and use the Services
● Children under 13 may not register for or directly access their own Tether account under any circumstances
● A parent or legal guardian who is at least 18 years old may create a Parent-Managed Profile on behalf of a child under 13 within their own account, subject to the COPPA-compliant consent process described in our Privacy Policy
By creating an account, you represent and warrant that you meet the applicable age requirement for your account type. If we learn that a user does not meet the applicable age requirement, we will immediately suspend or terminate that account and delete associated data.
When creating your account, you agree to provide information that is:
● True, accurate, current, and complete
● Promptly updated if any information changes
You represent that the email address you provide is one you own or control and that you have authorization to use it to register for Tether. Providing false, misleading, or fraudulent information is grounds for immediate account termination.
You are solely responsible for:
● Maintaining the confidentiality of your account password
● All activity that occurs under your account, whether or not authorized by you
● Immediately notifying us at support@tether-app.com if you suspect unauthorized access to your account, a compromised password, or any other security incident
We will never ask for your password via email, phone, or through the app. If you receive such a request, do not provide your password and report it to support@tether-app.com immediately.
Each individual may maintain only one active Tether account. You may not:
● Create multiple accounts
● Use another person's account
● Allow another person to use your account
● Transfer your account to another individual
An exception applies to a parent or guardian who creates and manages a Son Profile within their account on behalf of a minor — this is permitted and does not constitute creation of a second account.
Tether is a mobile relationship companion application designed to help fathers, sons, and father figures build, strengthen, and repair meaningful family connections. The Services include the following features:
A shared memory and milestone timeline where fathers and sons can upload photos, videos, voice notes, and written reflections. Entries may be kept private or shared with a connected family member. Tether stores all uploaded media securely and provides tools to organize, search, and revisit memories.
A curated library of offline bonding activities organized by category, age range, relationship goal, and estimated duration. Users can browse, filter, schedule, complete, and reflect on activities. Completed activities can be linked to My Journey memories.
Includes three distinct subfeatures:
● Direct Chat — a one-to-one private messaging channel between connected family members, with support for text, voice notes, and emoji reactions
● Guided Conversations — AI-assisted or curated conversation prompts organized by emotional tone (light, reflective, deep, reconciliation, encouraging, curious) to help users initiate meaningful dialogue
● AI Chat — a private AI support tool to help users draft messages, process emotions, prepare for difficult conversations, or find the right words
A private journaling and selective sharing tool designed to help fathers and sons express emotionally sensitive content in a low-pressure environment. Users may write, record voice entries, tag emotions, and choose whether to keep entries private, share them with a connected family member, or send a notification that they have shared something without immediately delivering the content. Safe Space entries are subject to AI tone reflection before optional sharing.
An AI-assisted, structured mediation feature that guides fathers and sons through a step-by-step process of private reflection, emotional identification, perspective-taking, role-reversal simulation, and guided repair. Both parties must consent to initiate a Conflict Resolution session. The feature is designed to support understanding and communication and is not a substitute for professional mediation, therapy, or legal counsel.
A library of relationship education content including short lessons, articles, video modules, reflection prompts, and practice exercises organized by life stage, user role, and relationship goal. Content is developed with input from relationship professionals and reviewed for accuracy.
A moderated social environment where users can participate in topic-based discussion circles, read and share reflections, attend virtual events and webinars, and access peer support groups. Community participation is subject to our Community Guidelines (see Section 6).
A personalized recommendation system that analyzes your usage patterns, relationship stage, sentiment trends, and activity history to surface contextually relevant suggestions for activities, conversation prompts, coaching content, and Community resources.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature or aspect of the Services at any time. We will provide reasonable advance notice of material changes that affect your core experience. We do not guarantee that any specific feature will be available indefinitely. We are not liable for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of Services.
Upon registration, you select one of three user roles:
● Father — a parent, stepparent, adoptive father, or similar primary father figure seeking to build connection with a son or sons
● Son — a son, stepson, or young man seeking to connect with a father or father figure in his life
● Father Figure / Mentor — an uncle, grandfather, coach, mentor, or other trusted adult male who plays a meaningful father-adjacent role in a young person's life
To use shared features like Direct Chat, Safe Space sharing, or Conflict Resolution, you must establish a connection with another Tether user. Connections are initiated by sending an invitation to the other party's email address. The invitation recipient must affirmatively accept the connection before any content sharing is enabled.
You are responsible for ensuring that any connection invitation you send is directed to a person you know and with whom you have an existing relationship. You may not send unsolicited connection requests to strangers.
A Father account may include profiles for multiple sons. Each son profile has its own timeline, activity history, privacy settings, and content. The Father account holder is responsible for the accuracy of information in all son profiles they manage and for ensuring that any son under 13 is registered through the COPPA-compliant Parent-Managed Profile process.
Tether is designed to support healthy family relationships. You agree to use the Services only for their intended, constructive purpose. The following conduct is strictly prohibited:
● Using the Services for any purpose that is unlawful, fraudulent, abusive, harmful, or in violation of these Terms
● Harassing, threatening, stalking, intimidating, or abusing any other user, including through Direct Chat or Community features
● Uploading, posting, or transmitting content that is defamatory, obscene, sexually explicit, or that promotes violence, hatred, or discrimination
● Using the Services in connection with domestic abuse, coercive control, parental alienation, or any conduct that could harm a child
● Impersonating any person, including another user, a Tether employee, or a licensed professional
● Attempting to access, disable, circumvent, or reverse-engineer any technical security feature of the Services
● Using automated tools, scripts, bots, or scrapers to access or interact with the Services
● Attempting to extract, compile, or harvest user data, email addresses, or other personal information from the Services
● Uploading content that contains malware, viruses, or any code designed to damage or disrupt the Services or other users' devices
● Using the Services in a manner that places an unreasonable or disproportionate load on our infrastructure
● Decompiling, disassembling, or attempting to derive the source code of the application except to the extent permitted by applicable law
● Using the Services to advertise, solicit, or promote any commercial product or service
● Using any content from the Services for commercial purposes without our express prior written consent
● Sublicensing, reselling, or redistributing the Services or any portion thereof
● Creating a competing product or service based on or derived from the Services
● Attempting to manipulate, jailbreak, or extract the underlying models or system prompts of AI Features
● Using AI Features to generate content that is harmful, deceptive, sexually explicit, or discriminatory
● Using AI Chat as a substitute for professional mental health treatment or crisis intervention
● Misrepresenting AI-generated content as your own authentic communication in a way that deceives a connected family member
Violation of any provision of this Section may result in any of the following at our discretion:
● Warning issued to your account
● Temporary suspension of specific features
● Permanent termination of your account and all associated data
● Reporting to law enforcement or other appropriate authorities
● Civil legal action to recover damages
We reserve the right to investigate suspected violations and to cooperate fully with law enforcement when required by law or to protect the safety of our users.
The Tether Community is a moderated space for fathers, sons, and father figures to share experiences, seek support, and learn from one another. All Community participation is subject to the following guidelines in addition to the prohibited conduct described in Section 5.
● Be respectful and constructive in all interactions
● Share personal experiences honestly without exaggerating or fabricating
● Support other members with empathy and without judgment
● Do not share personal contact information of other users without their consent
● Do not post spam, promotional content, or off-topic solicitations
● Do not share medical, legal, or financial advice that you are not professionally qualified to give
We reserve the right to review, edit, remove, or restrict any Community content that we determine in our sole discretion violates these Terms, our Community Guidelines, or applicable law. We use a combination of automated content moderation tools and human review.
Content that may be removed includes, without limitation:
● Content that violates Section 5 of these Terms
● Content that could identify or expose a minor
● Content that constitutes crisis-level disclosures, which will be responded to with crisis resources
● Coordinated inauthentic behavior or artificial amplification of content
You may report Community content that you believe violates these Terms by using the in-app report function or by emailing support@tether-app.com. We will review all reports in good faith and respond to serious reports within 2 business days.
You retain full ownership of all User Content you create, upload, or share through the Services. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of your User Content to us.
By submitting User Content through the Services, you grant Mentat Digital Solutions LLC a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to:
● Store and host your User Content on our servers for the purpose of providing the Services
● Display your User Content to you and, where you have chosen to share it, to the specific connected family member you have shared it with
● Create backups and cached copies for technical purposes
● Use anonymized, aggregated versions of User Content for internal product research and improvement, subject to the limitations described in our Privacy Policy
This license is strictly limited to what is necessary to provide the Services. We do not use your User Content for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with third parties except as described in our Privacy Policy.
This license terminates when you delete the relevant content or your account, subject to technical removal timelines described in the Privacy Policy.
By submitting User Content, you represent and warrant that:
● You own the content or have all necessary rights, licenses, and permissions to submit it
● The content does not infringe any third party's intellectual property rights, privacy rights, or publicity rights
● The content does not contain personally identifying information about any person without their consent
● The content does not violate these Terms or applicable law
● If the content includes images or recordings of a minor, you are the parent or legal guardian of that minor and have the authority to submit such content
We reserve the right, but not the obligation, to review and remove User Content that:
● Violates these Terms or applicable law
● Poses a risk to the safety of any user, particularly minors
● Has been reported by other users and found upon review to violate our standards
We will attempt to notify you of content removed from Community areas. For personal content such as journal entries and Safe Space entries, we will not access or review such content except when required by law or to investigate a credible safety concern.
Tether's AI Features are provided for informational, communicative, and supportive purposes. They are designed to assist you in expressing yourself more effectively, building communication skills, and navigating relational challenges. They are not and do not constitute:
● Professional mental health, psychiatric, or psychological services
● Medical diagnosis or treatment
● Legal, financial, or professional advice of any kind
● Crisis intervention services
● Therapy or counseling
AI-generated content may occasionally be inaccurate, incomplete, contextually inappropriate, or unsuitable for your specific situation. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or fitness for purpose of any AI-generated output. You should use your own judgment when using, sharing, or acting on AI-generated content.
Tether's AI Features process emotionally sensitive content including personal disclosures, relationship conflict, and family dynamics. While we design these features with care, AI systems cannot fully understand human emotional complexity. Do not rely solely on AI-generated guidance for significant relationship decisions, and always seek professional support for serious mental health concerns.
If you or a family member are experiencing a mental health crisis, suicidal ideation, thoughts of self-harm, or are in immediate danger, do not rely on Tether's AI Features. Contact:

AI Features are powered in part by OpenAI's API. By using AI Features, you acknowledge that your inputs are processed by OpenAI in accordance with OpenAI's terms and privacy practices for API customers, as described in our Privacy Policy. You agree not to use AI Features in violation of OpenAI's usage policies.
Tether offers a Free tier with access to core features and one or more Premium subscription tiers with access to additional or enhanced features. The specific features included in each tier and the pricing for Premium tiers are displayed within the app and subject to change with reasonable notice.
Premium subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis (monthly or annual, as selected) through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. By subscribing:
● You authorize the applicable app store to charge your payment method on a recurring basis at the start of each billing period
● Your subscription will automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before the renewal date
● You will not receive a reminder notification before each automatic renewal unless required by applicable law
You may cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple App Store or Google Play Store subscription settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You will retain access to Premium features until the end of the period you have paid for. We do not provide refunds for partial billing periods.
All subscription purchases are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Refund requests must be submitted directly to the applicable platform in accordance with their refund policies. We do not process refunds directly for subscriptions purchased through the app stores.
We reserve the right to change subscription pricing at any time. We will provide at least 30 days' advance notice of price increases affecting existing subscribers via email or in-app notification. Your continued subscription after the effective date of a price change constitutes your acceptance of the new pricing.
We may offer free trials of Premium features. Unless you cancel before the end of the free trial period, you will be automatically enrolled in a paid subscription at the applicable price. The duration and terms of any free trial will be disclosed at the time of offer.
All content, features, functionality, design, software, trademarks, service marks, logos, and other intellectual property comprising the Tether application and Services are owned by or licensed to Mentat Digital Solutions LLC and are protected by United States and international intellectual property laws.
Our intellectual property includes, without limitation:
● The Tether name, logo, and brand identity
● The application software, source code, and underlying algorithms
● The structure, design, and layout of the app
● All curated content including coaching modules, activity libraries, and conversation prompt libraries
● AI system architectures, prompt engineering methodologies, and recommendation models
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to download and install the App on a device you own or control, and to access and use the Services for your personal, non-commercial purposes.
This license does not include the right to:
● Copy, reproduce, modify, or create derivative works from any part of the Services
● Distribute, sell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Services or any content from them
● Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices
● Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the application software
If you submit feedback, suggestions, or ideas about the Services ("Feedback"), you grant us an irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, incorporate, and commercialize that Feedback without any obligation to you. You waive any moral rights in the Feedback.
Tether integrates with and may link to third-party services and websites. We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or terms of any third-party service. Your use of third-party services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
Third-party services integrated with Tether include OpenAI, Google Firebase, Apple App Store, and Google Play Store, each with their own terms of service. By using features powered by these providers, you agree to comply with their applicable terms.
We do not endorse and are not affiliated with any third-party products, services, or websites that may be mentioned within the Community or by other users.
Tether is a relationship companion tool and is not a healthcare provider, mental health platform, or crisis service. The Services, including all AI Features, coaching content, and Conflict Resolution tools, are designed to support communication and relationship building, not to diagnose, treat, or manage mental health conditions.
Nothing in the Services constitutes medical, psychological, psychiatric, therapeutic, or clinical advice. Users experiencing mental health challenges are encouraged to seek support from qualified professionals.
If you identify content or behavior within the Community or from another user that suggests a risk of self-harm, harm to others, or child safety concerns, please report it immediately using the in-app report function or by contacting support@tether-app.com.
You may terminate your account at any time by selecting "Delete Account" in the app settings or by contacting support@tether-app.com. Termination takes effect immediately upon your request. Your right to use the Services ceases immediately upon termination.
We may suspend or terminate your access to all or part of the Services at any time, with or without notice, for any of the following reasons:
● You have violated these Terms or our Community Guidelines
● Your conduct poses a risk to the safety of any user, particularly a minor
● We are required to do so by law or court order
● We are ceasing to operate the Services
● Extended periods of account inactivity (we will provide 30 days' prior notice in this case)
Termination for cause (e.g., violation of these Terms) takes effect immediately. We are not liable to you for any damages, losses, or inconvenience resulting from termination.
Upon termination of your account:
● Your license to use the Services is immediately revoked
● You must cease all use of the Services and uninstall the application
● Your User Content and account data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy
● Any Premium subscription fees already paid are non-refundable
● Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination will continue in effect, including Sections 7, 10, 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18
THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, MENTAT DIGITAL SOLUTIONS LLC EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING:
● IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT
● WARRANTIES THAT THE SERVICES WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE
● WARRANTIES REGARDING THE ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, OR SUITABILITY OF AI-GENERATED CONTENT
● WARRANTIES THAT DEFECTS IN THE SERVICES WILL BE CORRECTED
● WARRANTIES REGARDING THE RESULTS THAT MAY BE OBTAINED FROM USE OF THE SERVICES
WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT TETHER WILL PRODUCE ANY PARTICULAR OUTCOME IN YOUR FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS. RELATIONSHIP OUTCOMES DEPEND ON THE CHOICES AND ACTIONS OF INDIVIDUALS AND ARE BEYOND OUR CONTROL.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, MENTAT DIGITAL SOLUTIONS LLC, ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR ANY:
● INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES
● LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, BUSINESS, OR GOODWILL
● EMOTIONAL DISTRESS, RELATIONSHIP HARM, OR PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPACT
● COST OF SUBSTITUTE SERVICES
● LOSS OF DATA OR UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS TO DATA
ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICES, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICES, REGARDLESS OF THE FORM OF ACTION, SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF: (A) THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR SUBSCRIPTIONS IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE CLAIM; OR (B) ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS ($100.00).
SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF CERTAIN DAMAGES. IN SUCH JURISDICTIONS, OUR LIABILITY IS LIMITED TO THE GREATEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Mentat Digital Solutions LLC and its officers, directors, employees, agents, licensors, and service providers from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, awards, losses, costs, expenses, and attorneys' fees arising out of or relating to:
● Your access to or use of the Services
● Your User Content
● Your violation of these Terms
● Your violation of any third party's rights, including intellectual property, privacy, or publicity rights
● Your violation of any applicable law or regulation
● Any false representation you made in connection with your account registration or use of the Services
We reserve the right, at your expense, to assume exclusive control of the defense of any matter subject to indemnification. You agree to cooperate fully with our defense of such claims. We will use reasonable efforts to notify you of any claim subject to indemnification upon becoming aware of it.
These Terms and all disputes arising out of or relating to them shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Wyoming, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
Before initiating any formal legal proceeding, you agree to contact us at legal@tetherapp.com and provide a detailed description of the dispute and the relief sought. You agree to give us 30 days to attempt to resolve the dispute informally. This informal resolution requirement applies to both parties.
If informal resolution is unsuccessful, any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Services — including questions about the existence, validity, interpretation, performance, or termination of these Terms — shall be finally resolved by binding arbitration administered by a mutually agreed arbitration provider under its commercial arbitration rules.
The arbitration shall be conducted:
● In the English language
● In Sheridan County, Wyoming, or by remote proceedings if agreed by both parties
● By a single arbitrator mutually agreed upon by the parties, or selected by the arbitration provider's standard process
● With each party bearing its own legal fees unless the arbitrator awards fees to the prevailing party
The arbitrator's decision shall be final and binding and may be entered as a judgment in any court of competent jurisdiction.
YOU AND MENTAT DIGITAL SOLUTIONS LLC AGREE THAT EACH MAY BRING CLAIMS AGAINST THE OTHER ONLY IN AN INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY PURPORTED CLASS OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims and may not preside over any form of class or representative proceeding.
If the class action waiver is found to be unenforceable in a particular case, that claim must be brought in court rather than arbitration.
Either party may seek injunctive or other equitable relief in a court of competent jurisdiction to prevent actual or threatened:
● Infringement of intellectual property rights
● Unauthorized access to the Services
● Violations of Section 5 of these Terms that pose an imminent risk of harm
Nothing in this Section prevents you from reporting violations to regulatory agencies, consumer protection authorities, or law enforcement.
Any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Services must be filed within one (1) year of the date on which the cause of action arose, or it is permanently barred.
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any additional guidelines, policies, or rules posted within the Services, constitute the entire agreement between you and Mentat Digital Solutions LLC regarding the Services and supersede all prior agreements, representations, or understandings.
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable under applicable law, that provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or if modification is not possible, severed from these Terms. The remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms at any time does not constitute a waiver of that right or provision. Any waiver of a specific breach does not constitute a waiver of subsequent breaches.
You may not assign or transfer any rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may freely assign these Terms, including in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, without your consent. These Terms will bind any successors and assigns.
We are not liable for any failure or delay in performance resulting from causes beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, acts of government, internet or telecommunications failures, labor disputes, or pandemics.
These Terms do not create any third-party beneficiary rights. No person other than you and Mentat Digital Solutions LLC has any right to enforce any provision of these Terms.
All legal notices to us must be sent by email to legal@tetherapp.com with a copy by certified mail to 30 N Gould St Ste R, Sheridan, WY 82801, United States. We may send notices to you via the email address or in-app notification associated with your account. Notices sent by email are effective upon transmission.
